White Cloud Cherry Pleached Tree Description

The White Cloud Cherry, botanically known as Prunus Umineko, is a deciduous ornamental tree valued for its elegant form and abundant white spring blossom.

The trained pleached framework makes it especially useful for adding height and privacy along boundaries while keeping the planting footprint relatively compact.

During spring, clusters of white flowers create a striking display across the branches.

The fresh green foliage that follows provides structure through the growing season, while the pleached form gives gardens a neat and architectural appearance.

A Prunus Umineko pleached tree can work particularly well alongside contemporary landscaping, traditional gardens and formal planting schemes.

It can also be used to soften walls, fences and garden boundaries while creating additional visual height.

Pruning Advice

Regular pruning helps maintain the neat framework and screening qualities of a cherry pleached tree. Remove damaged, dead or crossing growth as required and trim unwanted shoots that develop outside the established framework.

Pruning is generally best carried out when the tree is actively growing or according to the specific requirements of the trained framework.

Avoid excessive pruning, particularly when the tree is newly planted, as it needs time to establish its root system.

Further Information

Spring Blossom: White Cloud Cherry produces an attractive display of white flowers in spring, providing strong seasonal interest.

Pleached Form: The trained horizontal framework creates an effective elevated screen while using less ground space than many traditional hedges.

Foliage: Fresh green leaves provide attractive coverage throughout the growing season before the tree becomes dormant in winter.

Garden Screening: Ideal for adding privacy and definition along boundaries, gardens and landscaped areas.

Position: A sunny or partially shaded position with well drained soil will help the tree establish successfully.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is Prunus Umineko suitable for pleaching?

Yes. Prunus Umineko is well suited to a pleached form, providing a structured framework that can be used to create elevated screening and privacy.

When does White Cloud Cherry flower?

White Cloud Cherry produces its main display of white blossom during spring, creating an attractive seasonal feature before the summer foliage develops.

How far apart should cherry pleached trees be planted?

Spacing depends on the size of the pleached framework and the level of screening required. Trees are commonly planted according to the width of their trained canopy, allowing the frameworks to create a continuous screen as they establish.

Can a White Cloud Cherry Pleached Tree be planted near a boundary?

Yes. Pleached trees are often used along garden boundaries because their trained canopies provide height and screening while their trunks occupy relatively little ground space. Allow sufficient room for future growth and maintenance.

Does a cherry pleached tree need regular maintenance?

Yes. Regular watering while establishing and occasional pruning are important for maintaining healthy growth and the desired pleached shape. Checking the supports and ties is also recommended during the establishment period.
