Evereste Crab Apple Pleached Tree Description

The Evereste Crab Apple Pleached Tree, botanically known as Malus ‘Evereste’, is a versatile ornamental tree valued for its combination of seasonal colour and formal structure.

As a pleached tree, its branches have been trained across a supporting framework to create a raised, horizontal canopy.

This makes it an excellent option for creating privacy above walls and fences while maintaining a relatively compact footprint at ground level.

One of the main attractions of Crab Apple Evereste is its spring display. Clusters of pink tinged buds open into attractive white flowers, creating a bright display across the trained canopy.

The flowers can also provide an early source of food for pollinating insects.

After flowering, small crab apples develop across the branches. The fruit gradually develops its characteristic orange red colour and can remain on the tree into autumn.

These colourful fruits add another layer of seasonal interest and can be enjoyed by visiting birds.

The foliage provides a fresh green backdrop during spring and summer before changing as autumn approaches.

Combined with the flowers and fruit, this gives the Evereste Crab Apple several distinct periods of ornamental interest.

The pleached form is particularly useful in formal gardens, contemporary landscapes, driveways, boundaries and terraces.

A row of trees can be used to create a structured screen while adding the seasonal interest associated with an ornamental crab apple.

Choose a planting position with sufficient sunlight and well drained soil. Allow enough space for the tree to develop while ensuring the trained canopy remains clear of buildings and other structures.

Pruning Advice

Regular pruning helps maintain the formal appearance of an Evereste Crab Apple Pleached Tree. The main objective is to keep new shoots within the established framework and preserve the neat horizontal canopy.

Remove unwanted shoots that extend beyond the trained structure and guide suitable new growth along the framework where appropriate. Light, regular maintenance can help prevent the canopy from becoming overgrown.

Dead, damaged or crossing branches should also be removed where necessary. Avoid removing the main trained framework unless there is a clear structural reason to do so.

Because Malus ‘Evereste’ is grown for its flowers and fruit as well as its shape, avoid excessive pruning that removes too much flowering wood.

Maintaining a balanced framework allows the tree to continue producing its seasonal display.

For larger pleached trees or installations requiring work at height, professional tree care may be appropriate.
