Small Leaved Lime Pleached Tree Description

The Small Leaved Lime, botanically known as Tilia cordata, is a deciduous tree valued for its attractive heart shaped foliage, natural form and adaptability.

When trained as a pleached tree, it provides a practical and attractive solution for creating elevated screening and garden structure.

The fresh green leaves create a dense canopy during the growing season, helping provide privacy and definition. In summer, small fragrant flowers can appear, adding further seasonal interest and attracting pollinating insects.

A small leaved lime pleached tree works particularly well along garden boundaries, around terraces and seating areas, or where additional height is required above existing walls and fences.

Its formal framework complements both traditional and contemporary garden designs.

Pruning Advice

Regular pruning helps maintain the neat shape and screening qualities of a lime pleached tree. Remove dead, damaged or crossing branches and trim shoots that grow outside the established pleached framework.

The trained framework should be maintained carefully to preserve its formal appearance.

Avoid excessive pruning while the tree is establishing, allowing it sufficient time to develop a strong root system.
