Korean Feather Reed Ornamental Grass Description

Calamagrostis brachytricha is commonly known as Korean Feather Reed Grass and is valued for its upright habit, green foliage and soft, plume like flowers.

The flowering stems emerge above the foliage during late summer, creating an attractive vertical display.

The flowers develop from soft pinkish or purple tinges into silvery plumes as they mature, adding texture and movement to the garden.

These can remain attractive into autumn and provide useful structure after many other flowering plants have finished.

Korean Feather Reed Ornamental Grass works well in mixed borders, naturalistic planting schemes, wildlife friendly gardens and contemporary landscapes. It can be planted individually as an accent or grouped together to create a stronger display.

Pruning Advice

Leave the flowering stems standing through autumn and winter to enjoy their structure and texture for longer.

The dried plumes can provide additional visual interest during the colder months.

Cut back old foliage and flowering stems in late winter or early spring before new growth begins. Remove the previous season's material carefully to avoid damaging emerging shoots.
