Snowflake Woodrush Description

Luzula nivea, commonly known as Snowflake Woodrush, is an evergreen perennial valued for its attractive foliage and clusters of small white flowers. Its soft, grass like appearance makes it an excellent choice for adding texture to planting schemes without overwhelming surrounding plants.

The bright flowers provide a striking contrast against the green foliage, creating useful seasonal interest in borders and woodland inspired gardens. As one of the more versatile ornamental grasses UK gardeners can use in partially shaded areas, Snowflake Woodrush can help brighten spaces where many sun loving grasses may struggle.

This perennial woodrush is well suited to naturalistic planting, cottage style gardens and informal borders. Its evergreen foliage can also provide structure outside the main flowering period.

For gardeners searching for a reliable woodrush plant, Snowflake Woodrush offers a useful combination of evergreen foliage, compact growth and attractive white flowers. It can be planted alongside ferns, hostas, shade tolerant shrubs and other woodland plants.

Pruning Advice

Snowflake Woodrush requires minimal pruning. Remove dead or damaged foliage throughout the year to maintain a tidy appearance.

In late winter or early spring, older foliage can be trimmed back before fresh growth begins. Cut carefully to avoid damaging new shoots emerging from the base.

Spent flower stems can also be removed after flowering if a neater appearance is preferred.
