Little Zebra Miscanthus Description

Miscanthus Little Zebra is a distinctive variety of Miscanthus sinensis valued for its unusual striped foliage and upright form. The horizontal bands across the leaves create a strong visual effect and make this variety particularly useful as a feature plant.

Also known as Miscanthus zebra grass, this ornamental grass provides colour and texture even when it is not flowering. The striped leaves contrast well with green shrubs, flowering perennials and other grasses.

Miscanthus sinensis Little Zebra is especially useful for gardeners looking for a more compact zebra grass plant. It can introduce architectural interest into borders without requiring the space associated with some larger Miscanthus varieties.

As the growing season progresses, the plant can produce attractive flower plumes that add further movement and seasonal interest. The foliage and mature stems can also provide useful winter structure when left standing.

For gardeners searching for Miscanthus zebra grass, Little Zebra offers an eye catching combination of striped foliage, upright growth and seasonal interest. It can be planted individually as a focal point or combined with complementary plants in a mixed border.

Pruning Advice

Leave the foliage and flower plumes of Little Zebra Miscanthus in place through autumn and winter. The dried stems can provide valuable structure and movement during the colder months.

Cut back the old growth in late winter or early spring before new shoots emerge. Wear gloves when pruning and remove the previous season's foliage close to the base, taking care not to damage fresh growth.
