Planting Conditions Stipa gigantea performs best in a sunny, open position with well drained soil. It is particularly suitable for gravel gardens and borders where excess water can drain away easily. Avoid heavy, waterlogged soil, especially during winter. When planting, allow enough space around the grass for its flower stems to rise above surrounding plants and display their full effect.
Growth Rate Giant Feather Grass develops into a clump of narrow foliage, with tall flower stems that create an airy, architectural effect. Its mature size depends on growing conditions, so leave sufficient room for both the foliage and flowering stems. The golden flower heads add seasonal interest and can remain attractive as they mature, making this a useful plant for gardens that benefit from height and structure.

Product Description

Stipa gigantea is a popular choice for gardeners who want ornamental grass with a light, graceful appearance. Its narrow green foliage forms a neat base, while its tall stems and golden flower heads provide height and contrast in planting beds.

This giant feather grass looks particularly effective when planted among flowering perennials, shrubs and other ornamental grasses. It can be used as a standalone feature or planted in groups to create a natural, flowing display.

Whether you are refreshing an established border or planning a new garden, Giant Feather Grass can help introduce movement and structure without making the planting scheme feel heavy. For gardeners searching to buy Stipa gigantea in the UK, it is a versatile option for sunny spaces with suitable drainage.

Pruning Advice

Leave the flower stems standing while they provide seasonal interest. In early spring, remove dead or damaged foliage and old stems to make space for fresh growth.

Wear gardening gloves when tidying ornamental grasses, and avoid cutting into the crown of the plant. Regular light maintenance is generally sufficient to keep Giant Feather Grass looking tidy.
