Adagio Maiden Grass Description

Miscanthus Adagio is a popular ornamental grass valued for its upright habit, fine foliage and attractive flower plumes. It brings height and movement to planting schemes while maintaining a relatively neat and manageable form.

As a variety of Miscanthus maiden grass, Adagio combines the graceful appearance associated with this popular group of grasses with a useful garden friendly habit. The narrow foliage creates a soft texture that contrasts well with broad leaved plants, flowering perennials and evergreen shrubs.

Maiden grass is particularly effective when planted towards the middle or back of a border, where its foliage and flower plumes can provide height without creating a heavy appearance. It can also be planted in groups to create a stronger visual effect or incorporated into naturalistic planting schemes.

For gardeners looking for ornamental grass plants that provide several seasons of interest, Adagio is a versatile option. It can be used alongside other ornamental grasses to create varied textures, heights and movement within the garden.

Pruning Advice

Allow the foliage and flower heads of Adagio Maiden Grass to remain through autumn and winter. The dried foliage and plumes can provide valuable structure and movement during the colder months.

Cut back the old growth in late winter or early spring before new shoots emerge. Wear gloves when pruning and remove the previous season's foliage close to the base without damaging new growth.
