Blue Fescue Description

Festuca glauca, commonly known as Blue Fescue, is a popular ornamental grass recognised for its distinctive blue grey foliage and compact form.

Its fine leaves create a soft, rounded appearance that adds contrast to green foliage and flowering plants.

This Blue Fescue ornamental grass is particularly effective in contemporary and structured planting schemes. Its strong colour can provide a striking contrast against gravel, stone, paving and darker foliage.

Blue Fescue grasses are also suitable for smaller gardens where space is limited. Their compact habit makes them useful for edging, rockeries and containers, while their evergreen or semi evergreen foliage can provide interest beyond the main growing season.

Pruning Advice

Blue Fescue generally requires minimal pruning. Remove dead, damaged or untidy foliage as required to maintain its neat appearance.

In late winter or early spring, gently remove older foliage and any damaged material before new growth begins. Avoid cutting too deeply into the centre of the plant, as this can affect its ability to produce fresh growth.
