Bronze New Zealand Sedge Description

Carex comans Bronze Form is a fine textured ornamental sedge with narrow, gracefully arching leaves. Its bronze colouring provides a warm contrast within planting schemes and gives the plant an attractive appearance across different seasons.

The delicate foliage creates movement when planted in groups and can soften the edges of paths, borders and hard landscaping. Its compact form also makes the Bronze New Zealand Sedge suitable for containers, gravel gardens and smaller planting areas.

As a member of the Carex genus, it offers a different texture from many upright ornamental grasses. The gently cascading foliage can be used to introduce contrast between taller plants and lower growing ground cover or perennials.

Pruning Advice

Carex comans Bronze Form requires relatively little maintenance. Remove dead, damaged or untidy foliage in late winter or early spring to keep the plant looking fresh.

Rather than cutting the entire plant back heavily, carefully remove older foliage while retaining healthy growth. This helps preserve its natural shape and allows new foliage to develop.

You can also remove accumulated dead material from around the base when carrying out seasonal maintenance.
