Kleine Silberspinne Miscanthus Description

Miscanthus Kleine Silberspinne is a graceful variety of Miscanthus sinensis, commonly associated with Chinese Silver Grass and Maiden Grass. It is valued for its fine foliage, upright form and attractive silvery flower plumes.

The narrow leaves create a soft texture that contrasts beautifully with broad leaved shrubs and flowering perennials. As the season progresses, the flower plumes add another layer of interest and can remain attractive after flowering.

This Miscanthus grass is particularly useful towards the middle or back of a border, where its upright form can introduce height without making the planting scheme appear too heavy. It can also be planted in groups for a stronger visual effect.

For gardeners looking for grass plants that offer several seasons of interest, Kleine Silberspinne provides a combination of foliage, movement and structure. It works well alongside other ornamental grasses UK gardeners use in naturalistic and contemporary planting schemes.

As a type of Maiden Grass, it can also provide useful winter structure when its mature foliage and flower heads are left standing until late winter.

Pruning Advice

Allow the foliage and flower plumes of Kleine Silberspinne Miscanthus to remain through autumn and winter. The dried stems can provide valuable structure and movement during the colder months.

Cut back the old growth in late winter or early spring before new shoots emerge. Wear gloves when pruning and remove the previous season's foliage close to the base, taking care not to damage fresh growth.
