Wavy Hair Grass Description

Deschampsia flexuosa, commonly known as Wavy Hair Grass, is an elegant ornamental grass valued for its fine, arching foliage and delicate flower stems. Its airy form creates gentle movement in the garden and works particularly well where a natural, understated planting style is preferred.

This Wavy Hair ornamental grass is ideal for adding fine texture and contrast without overwhelming surrounding plants. Its soft appearance pairs well with woodland plants, flowering perennials and other ornamental grasses.

Wavy Hair Grass can also be incorporated into naturalistic and wildlife friendly planting schemes. The fine foliage and open flowering stems create a relaxed appearance that suits informal borders and garden areas inspired by natural landscapes.

Pruning Advice

The delicate flowering stems can be left standing through autumn and winter to provide additional structure and interest. Cut back old foliage and flowering stems in late winter or early spring before new growth begins.

Use clean, sharp shears to remove old or damaged material and maintain a tidy clump. Avoid cutting back too early, as the existing foliage can contribute to winter structure.
