Prairie Fire Sedge Description

Carex Prairie Fire is a distinctive sedge valued for its warm copper coloured foliage and graceful form. Its fine leaves create a soft, flowing appearance that works well alongside green, silver and flowering plants.

Prairie Fire is an excellent choice for gardeners looking to introduce the character of prairie grasses into a planting scheme.

It can be used as edging, planted in groups for greater impact or combined with other ornamental grasses and perennials to create a relaxed, natural appearance.

The compact habit also makes this Prairie Fire ornamental grass suitable for smaller planting areas and containers. Its foliage provides useful structure beyond the main flowering season, helping maintain visual interest throughout the year.

Pruning Advice

Prairie Fire Sedge generally requires little pruning. Remove damaged or untidy foliage in late winter or early spring before new growth begins.

Avoid cutting the plant back too early, as the existing foliage can provide useful winter structure and protection. Use clean, sharp secateurs or shears when trimming to encourage fresh growth.
