Blackthorn Based Mixed Native Hedging Description

Mixed Native Blackthorn Based Hedging is a robust and versatile hedging option that offers a blend of beauty, practicality, and ecological benefits. Comprising at least 50% Blackthorn (Prunus spinosa), this hardy mix also includes native British species such as Wild Cherry, Field Maple, Dog Rose, Hazel, and Hawthorn. The combination of these species makes it an excellent choice for creating a natural boundary that is both attractive and wildlife friendly, while also providing a dense, protective barrier for your garden or field.

Pruning Advice

Prune the hedge annually during late winter or early spring, before the growing season begins, to maintain its shape and encourage dense growth. Lightly trim to remove any dead or damaged wood and to ensure the hedge remains thick and bushy.

Further Information

Hardiness: Thrives in tough conditions like heavy soils and coastal sites, requiring minimal maintenance once established.

Wildlife Friendly: Supports wildlife, with flowers attracting bees in spring and berries providing food for birds in autumn.

Seasonal Interest: Offers year round appeal with spring flowers, autumn berries, and colourful foliage.

Natural Privacy and Security: Creates a dense, thorny barrier ideal for privacy and protection.

Cost Effective: Affordable and quick to establish as a bare root option.
